JAC Products
Bob DeWolf
Vice President - Finance
In June 1999, JAC Products made a decision to build
a "state of the art" plastic injection molding
facility. Our new facility will be complete in December
2000. This 180,000 sq. ft. facility, located in Saline
Michigan, houses 48 injection molding presses, a state
of the art material handing and regrind system, all
necessary production support systems and 24,000 sq.
ft. of administrative offices. Over 400 employees
now enjoy coming to work at this new facility.
Upon making this decision we knew that we lacked
the experience to properly oversee the completion
of this project. We believed that we had the proper
internal resources to specify and oversee the implementation
of those systems necessary to complete our vision
of the "state of the art mold plant". However,
we did not have the knowledge and expertise in the
area of building, contracting, project management
and relocation management.
Enter Bob Formisano and P2M. Bob and his team filled
the void that we had with years of experience of dealing
in the construction industry. The P2M team provided
us with an effective interface between JAC, the builder
and the owner. In attending all major meetings they
represented our interests in all areas such as design,
cost, timing and overall quality. This representation
resulted in cost savings of $1.1 million.
P2M provided JAC with a roadmap through the building
process. This roadmap helped JAC employees focus on
the coordination, implementation and installation
of the special process requirements in the building.
Bob and his team instilled in all of us the need to
keep meticulous records and the need to pay special
attention to details. P2M facilitated the creation
of and the adherence to project timelines. The P2M
team kept JAC focused on the important issues rather
than getting lost in the details.
Bob and his team also provided us with help in our
physical move. His help ranged from preparation of
RFQ's, evaluation and selection of things like security
systems, phone systems, furniture systems, furniture
move and machine rigging. We were provided with a
checklist of the "millions of details" associated
with the physical move. All details ranging from ordering
new business stationary to moving a 1500-ton press
were made available to our team. The whole move process
was made easier by not having to think of all of the
details but rather systematically complete them.
The result of our combined effort is the making of
the "vision" a "reality". Our
building was delivered to on time, and our physical
move was completed with no interruption to the production
process. Bob Formisano and the P2M team played a major
role in this success story. JAC Products thanks him
for the role he played and we highly recommend him
and P2M to anyone embarking on a similar project.
