Study Three:
TOWER AUTOMOTIVE
Technical Center; Novi, Michigan
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
TOWER Automotive is a leading, global Tier
1 producer of upper and lower body structural frames
and components, chassis and suspension stampings,
assemblies and modules for automobiles, sport-utility
vehicles and trucks. P2M first developed a strategic
facility plan to consolidate Technical Center office
functions in its Michigan facilities. P2M's space
planning strategy was driven by the client's business
model. It was based on cross-functional teams and
alternative office concepts to improve space efficiency
and effectiveness. These planning concepts included
"commons areas", skylights over team assembly
areas, "hoteling" areas for frequent out-of-town
staff, multiple team interaction spaces, and single
person and 4 person team workstations utilizing one
workstation planning module.
P2M then worked closely with TOWER Automotive as
their overall project manager and integrated with
the multiple client teams that participated in the
project, a result of the highly collaborative and
empowered culture of the client's organization. P2M
successfully guided the Tower Automotive through the
entire project process, from development of a strategic
facility plan to implementation of that plan and budget,
serving as an extension of their organization.
This model project represented a truly successful
effort between the client, P2M, the landlord/developer
and the architect. The project consists of 86,500
SF of office and benchmarking facilities. P2M successfully
managed the project on behalf of Tower Automotive
and the project was completed 14% under budget. <TOWER
